Relief International Africa has called for restraint, privacy and responsible public conduct following recent public statements and social media discussions surrounding the reported marital difficulties and divorce proceedings involving renowned Gospel musician, Mr. Asu Ekiye, and his wife, Mrs.Kunemofa Asu.
The organisation made the call in a press statement issued and signed by the Executive Director, Green Isaac, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, stressing that the welfare and emotional wellbeing of the couple’s children should remain paramount amid the ongoing dispute.
The human-rights and community-development organisation said it was not taking sides or attempting to determine the facts or merits of the matter, which it noted should be addressed through appropriate legal processes.
However, it expressed solidarity with Kunemofa Asu, commending what it described as her restraint and decorum in the face of public discussions about her marriage.

Relief International Africa urged her to remain calm and resist pressure to respond to every statement, accusation or provocation on social media.
“Sometimes, silence is discipline. Sometimes, restraint is strength,” the organisation stated, adding that not every private dispute should be subjected to public scrutiny.
It also appealed to Ekiye, as a respected Gospel musician and public figure, to exercise restraint and allow the legal process to take its course rather than continually placing private marital matters before the court of public opinion.
The organisation stressed that whatever differences exist between the couple, their children should not be made instruments of the dispute.
It urged both parents to protect the children from being forced to take sides or exposed to hostile exchanges and private family matters on social media.
“Whatever happens between two adults, the children remain children of both parents,” the statement said.
Relief International Africa further warned against turning Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp and other social media platforms into substitutes for courts, counsellors, mediators or responsible family dialogue.
It, however, noted that where there is violence, abuse, criminal conduct or a genuine threat to safety, affected persons should seek appropriate legal and professional assistance.
The organisation also appealed to members of the public to refrain from insults, character assassination, threats and online harassment against either party, urging social media users not to amplify unverified allegations.
It said the situation should serve as a lesson to families across the Niger Delta on the need to resolve disagreements through responsible dialogue, counselling and mediation where possible.
The organisation further noted that public figures have a responsibility to understand the influence of their conduct, stressing that their handling of difficult personal circumstances could serve as an example to young people, families and newly married couples.
While acknowledging Mrs. Asu’s right to privacy, it said public responsibility also required judgment, discretion and composure, particularly given her association with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Relief International Africa concluded by urging both parties to respect the law, protect their children, avoid public retaliation and allow due process to determine the future of their marriage.
It maintained that although a marriage or relationship may end, the responsibility of both parents to protect their children remains.
