Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation and ongoing rescue operations following the recent attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.
Disu, who arrived in the state on Saturday, August 29, 2026, also commiserated with the Niger State Government, affected communities and families of the victims.
At the Niger State Government House, the IGP was received by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Bello Magaji.
The Inspector-General conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the government and people of the state and assured them that the safe recovery of the abducted persons and arrest of the perpetrators remained the focus of ongoing security operations.
He commended the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command’s response and timely situation reports following the incident.

Disu also appreciated the Niger State Government for its continued support to the Police, particularly through the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers and welfare support for police personnel.
Addressing officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, the IGP directed them to sustain intelligence-led and professionally coordinated operations, while prioritising the safety of the victims and affected communities.
He assured the command of continued support from Force Headquarters to strengthen its logistics, mobility, intelligence, training and operational capacity.
The IGP further directed the command to deepen inter-agency coordination and community engagement, stressing that effective intelligence gathering and early response required stronger collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Responding, the Deputy Governor commended Disu for personally visiting the state to assess the situation and reinforce ongoing rescue efforts.
Garba reiterated the state government’s support for the Police and other security agencies in their efforts to protect lives, restore peace and secure the release of the abducted persons.
As part of the visit, Disu also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago, CON, to commiserate with the Emirate and strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions on intelligence gathering, community engagement and efforts to restore peace across the state.
The Nigeria Police Force assured residents of Niger State that it remained committed to rescuing the abducted persons, protecting communities and bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
