The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has paid his maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, as part of efforts to strengthen international police cooperation and enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s response to transnational crime.
Disu, who visited the INTERPOL headquarters on Monday, October 5, 2026, met with the organisation’s Secretary-General, Valdecy Urquiza, and other senior officials.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in areas including cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive tracking, intelligence sharing and the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify further areas of technical and operational collaboration.
The areas discussed included strengthening criminal intelligence analysis, improving cross-border investigations and disrupting transnational criminal networks.
The IGP was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to strengthening collaboration with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement partners by leveraging intelligence, technology and global policing capabilities to combat evolving security threats and prevent criminal networks from operating across borders.
