Flood occasioned by the incessant heavy downpour of rain has wreaked havoc in Degema Community of the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Natives and residents of the community are calling for the immediate intervention of the government, to salvage the situation and provide succour.
While some homes have been heavily submerged, some residents have been displaced by the incident.
Following the persistent rainfall, the resident appealed for relocation, mosquito net to prevent sicknesses and diseases, especially for their children.
Haven lost their source of livelihood as the devastating flood destroyed farmlands and produces, the residents appealed for relief materials.
Some villagers expressed frustration as they have been left abandoned in the flood-ravaged area, with no means of leaving their homes.
They called for the swift action of government to halt the Degema flood crisis.
In his appeal to government at all levels, onbehalf of the people, Mr Nelson Tekena, said, “I am appealing for urgent government intervention as devastating floods destroy homes, farmlands, and paralyze local economies.
“The cries for help follow recent persistent heavy downpours that submerged some houses in Degema town, destroyed houses leaving residents displaced.
“I am calling on the chairman of Degema local government area, Michael John Williams, for urgent attention.
“The Degema local government 10th legislative assembly and the political leader of Degema ward 12 Rt Hon Sweiyi Moses, the leader state and federal government to intervene quickly.
“The affected villagers has expressed deep fraustration, nothing that they have been abandoned to watch helplessly as their livelihoods drown because they lack the financial resources to relocate without structured government assistance.”
